A new advance in the treatment of stretch marks is the laser stretch mark removal procedure. This procedure promises to bring out younger and healthier looking skin after all necessary sessions have been carried out. Nobody likes stretch marks and because they seem to never go away, everyone who has stretch marks wants to get rid of them right away. While laser removal of stretch marks promises all these things, laser is a type of surgery and is considered invasive. It does have its risk factors, which we will discuss below. Stretch marks are a type of skin scarring linked to obesity, pregnancy, puberty and rapid muscle gain from bodybuilding and related physical activities. Stretch marks appear when the middle layer of the skin that preserves elasticity and shape is stretched over its limit. The consequence is breakage of connective fibers and disruption of collagen production. All these events eventually results in scarring. Laser is now being advertised for the removal of stretch marks. However, dermatologists usually first recommend non-surgical alternative treatments, as they are less invasive and safer.
